Isaac Sering, who has charge of the Fair Grounds at Crawfordsville was shot by his son-in-law, Sunday afternoon and seriously wounded. The son-in-law claims that the old man struck him with a poker and he fired in self-defense. As Searing (sic) is very old it does not look probably. The bullet lodged in the intestines. -- transcribed by kbz

Isaac M. Sering, 78 years old, died at midnight Saturday night of paralysis, after an illness of only three days. He was making his home with his daughter, Mrs. Joe Douglas, 1009 east Tuttle avenue.
He was born in Boone county December 12, 1840, the son of George M. and Nancy Sering. He was married to Delalia Riley and leaves the following children: George W. Sering, city; Willis Sering, Indianapolis; Mrs. Mary Hillard, Mrs. Rose Douglas and Mrs. Emma Toney, all of this city. The deceased was a member of the United Brethren Church.
Funeral services were held this afternoon at the home of his daughter, Mrs. Joe Douglas, 1009 east Tuttle avenue, at 2:30 o’clock in charge of Rev. George A. Hill.

Transcribed by: Vernon L. Threlkeld, a distant relative of the deceased. (I.D. 46986161)

Note: His mother Nancy’s maiden name was Chenault. His middle name was sometimes shown as Maurice, Muncy, and Munts. However, it is thought that the actual name was “Munson,” though it has not been proven in absolute terms as of this writing (July 2019).
The year of birth on the death certificate and obituary are probably inaccurate. Early census records (1850, 1860, etc.), and the birth order of siblings, indicate a more likely birth year of 1842 to 1843.
